A diver’s incredible selfie with a smiling shark has been named in GoPro’s top five photos of the year. Allison Dawn, who documents her shark interactions on social media, was awarded bragging rights for the striking image on Saturday with the tech company deeming it “Christmas card worthy”. The photo shows the avid diver capturing the perfect moment the lemon shark, named Snooty, looked at the camera flashing a toothy grin. The interaction happened in waters off Jupiter Beach in Florida.
Upon hearing the news of her photo making the cut, Dawn said: “Thank you @gopro for choosing my selfie with SNOOTY as one of the TOP 5 photos of 2024!!” Fellow ocean lovers took to the comments section of her Instagram post sharing messages of awe and support. “Wow 👏 what an awesome shot,” one user said. A second wrote: “This is THE BEST!” “Incredible shot!” a third added. “Omg congrats girl!!!” another said. In July, GoPro named it their photo of the day and awarded Dawn $500.
