Members of the family of paramedic Steven Tougher sobbed as they came face-to-face with the man who killed him, Jordan James Fineanganofo.

A man who stabbed paramedic Steven Tougher to death outside Campbelltown McDonald’s is expected to be found “not criminally responsible” after a court heard psychiatrists agreed he did not know the act was wrong.

Among those seated in the packed courtroom on Monday were Tougher’s wife, Madison, his parents, Jillian and Jeff, and his sister Jess. Members of the family sobbed as they came face-to-face with Fineanganofo, who initially hung his head as he sat in the dock in a suit. McKay said the Crown and defence had each engaged a psychiatrist and “they both are of the opinion, firstly, that he probably did know the nature and quality of the act, but he did not know the act was wrong”.

McKay noted it was for the judge to be “satisfied the opinions of the experts are accepted, and special verdicts are appropriate”.
