Armed police have swarmed the city of Auckland after witnesses reported hearing gunshots before seeing a gunman inside a construction building.
Witnesses have reported seeing a gunman in a building under construction in the downtown area as workers were making their way to their offices.
Those who had already arrived to work have been told to barricade themselves inside until further advice from police. It has been reported at least two people are injured. "Police ask all members of the public to avoid the lower Queen St area and for those in downtown inner-city buildings to remain inside their buildings at this time," it said."A large police presence will remain in the area. Police will provide a further update as soon as we are in a position to do so."Eden Park, which is located just five kilometres south-west from the shooting site, is scheduled to hold the first Women's World Cup game on Thursday night.
