Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen officially unveils the first proponents to receive offshore wind farm feasibility licences.

Six offshore wind projects vying to secure a place in Australia's first offshore wind zone have been granted feasibility licences.Companies behind the proposals now have an opportunity to undertake detailed assessments before submitting final plans.

In the speech, obtained in advance by the ABC, Mr Bowen will say the market response to the development of Australia's first offshore wind zone was "huge" and "massively oversubscribed". Meanwhile, a decision has been made not to grant feasibility licences to the remaining 25 applicants. "Crucially, the Gippsland community will have several further opportunities to have their say before any construction commences," his speech reads.
