The union movement is urging the Albanese government to limit temporary skilled migration to jobs paying more than $90,900 and increase the fee employers must pay to bring in foreign workers.

Labor has pledged to lift the TSMIT, which has been frozen at $53,900 since 2013 – well below the $65,000 it would be if it was indexed to wage growth over the past decade., with about 80 per cent of full-time jobs having a salary above this level.In its submission, the ACTU calls for the threshold to be increased to $90,917 – the level of average earnings – after which it would be indexed annually to wages growth.
