Sky News Meteorologist Rob Sharpe has explained how bushfires start and how they can affect Australians. “Australia is notorious for its deadly and destructive bushfires,” Mr Sharpe said. Mr Sharpe said close to half of bushfires are started by lightning after it has struck either a tree or bush, while the other half are started by humans either by accident or on purpose by arsonists. “Once a fire starts, its movement and intensity depends on the weather and the landscape,” he said. There are five main factors that make fires move faster and burn more dangerously - these include abundant vegetation, dry vegetation, strong winds, heat and low humidity.
