Smith in doubt as Australia’s injury list mounts in Sri Lanka ODI series | malcolmconn
Steve Smith looks set to be ruled out of Sunday night’s one-day match against Sri Lanka in Colombo as Australia seeks to protect one of their most vital assets for the Test matches.
“We’ve got everyone wrapped up in cotton wool for the next 24 hours,” Australia’s wicketkeeper Alex Carey joked when asked about the mounting injury toll. They are both expected to play again on Sunday night, with Stoinis , joining Sean Abbott and Kane Richardson as early evacuees from the tour. “Spin will play a part,” Carey said on Saturday. “Our batters have now had another taste in these conditions, so we’ll wait and see.”Both Tests will be played at Galle, which traditionally favours spin, as Lyon found to his delight when he made his Test debut there 11 years ago, claiming first innings figures of 5-34 in a strong Australian victory.
