Residents are being urged to close their windows and doors as firefighters battle a tip fire near Bulla, north of Melbourne Airport.
The first reports came in at 6.15am on Tuesday and the fire was still burning out of control at 7.30am.
The CFA has issued smoke warnings for Bulla, Diggers Rest, Greenvale, Keilor North, Melbourne Airport, Oaklands Junction, Sunbury and Wildwood.People sensitive to smoke should close their windows and stay indoors. Victoria's Environment Protection Authority shut down the Sunbury Road tip in 2018 after it discovered asbestos, several sub-surface fires and waste dumped outside the boundary.Firefighters were trying to contain the blaze on Tuesday morning."We have excavated and relocated the waste material that was inappropriately disposed of to temporary stockpiles at our facility as part of the approved clean up works at the site," it said.
Smoke warnings have been issued to people living near the Bulla Tip and Quarry after a fire broke out early Tuesday morning."These temporary stockpiles are covered and are visible from Sunbury Road.
