Much of New Jersey could get 1 to 2 inches of snow starting early Sunday as cold air returns to the state, according to the National Weather Service.
The spring-like warmth will be short-lived, though, as a cold front is expected to move through in the evening. By Sunday morning, temperatures will have fallen back in the teens and 20s., which is expected to begin falling overnight. The National Weather Service is predicting 1 to 2 inches of snow for the southern half of the state and in parts of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties. The rest of the state north and west of I-95 will likely see less than an inch of snow.
“The above-normal temperatures may help to limit accumulations when snow begins to fall on Saturday night and continues into Sunday,”. “Since the air will take some time to cool, it is possible that some rain will be mixed in with snow. This would be especially true when precipitation falls lightly and in locations where most of the precipitation occurs during the daylight hours of Sunday.”
The National Weather Service said the total expected snow accumulation is not enough to warrant any winter storm advisories in New Jersey.from the last two days. On Friday, temperatures broke through into the 60s in some parts of the state. Saturday’s marks aren’t expected to break records, but they could come close. The daily record high for Feb. 12 is 64 degrees in Atlantic City, set in 2018, 68 degrees in Trenton, set in 1999, and 70 degrees in Newark, set in 1999, according to data from the Weather Service.
