Snow as far north as Queensland is possible from today as a cold air mass originating in Antarctic waters crosses the border.

While it's not going to snow at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium tomorrow for rugby league's final and deciding State of Origin match, light snow flurries are possible over the Granite Belt region of southern Queensland during the next three days.

The Granite Belt town of Stanthorpe, at an elevation of just over 800 metres, holds the record for Queensland's coldest recorded temperature of a bitterly cold –10.6° degrees back in June 1961, and also sees occasional snowfalls. If you are heading to Suncorp Stadium tomorrow, it'll be a cold night by Brisbane standards, with a low temperature of 9 degrees and maximums of 19 degrees expected through to Thursday.

Meanwhile, there has been a night of wild weather in Melbourne, with the SES responding to flood incidents across the city.A woman was reportedly freed from her car after becoming trapped in knee-high water in Oakleigh South.
