South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas says the neurodiverse community is huge and has had a largely silent response at the political level as his government appoints a nation-first autism minister.

Emily Bourke becomes the nation’s first representative for the autism community as she assumes the role of Assistant Autism Minister.

“We’re trying to address that here in South Australia and we aspire to be a national leader in this regard,” he told Sky News Australia. “Because there are a lot of families out there, a lot of young people out there, crying out for support.”
