A popular beach in South West Australia has been closed after a close encounter with a great white shark. This incident follows another shark sighting at Cottesloe Beach where a bronze whaler was trapped within a shark net.

A popular beach in South West Australia has been closed after a shark sighting. The closure occurred just before 4 pm on Thursday following the observation of a four-meter great white shark circling approximately 500 meters offshore. Notably, an hour earlier, a two-meter bronze whaler shark had been spotted even closer to shore, at just 10 meters offshore, at the same beach.

According to SharkSmart, an organization dedicated to shark awareness and safety, a total of 18 sharks have been sighted and two detected along the Western Australian coast in the past 24 hours. This recent incident follows another close call a week prior when swimmers were ordered out of the water at Cottesloe Beach after a shark was spotted circling within the shark net. Surf life savers at Cottesloe Beach issued a loudspeaker warning urging swimmers to exit the water due to the presence of a 1.5-meter bronze whaler trapped inside the protective net. Most swimmers swiftly responded to the alert, but one individual remained oblivious to the warning, prompting surf life savers to briefly sound a siren. A drone was deployed to monitor the situation, keeping a watchful eye on the confined shark. The bronze whaler spent the night trapped within the net, during which a spear fisherman illegally shot the shark. Thankfully, the shark was freed the following day

Albanese argues that cabanas create an unequal beach environment, contrasting it with the notion that every Australian has equal claim to the country's shores. This statement follows growing criticism on social media regarding the practice of beachgoers setting up cabanas, leaving them unattended, and returning later in the day.
