The UK has set a new daily record of COVID-19 cases as the highly transmissible Omicron variant continues to sweep across the country.On Wednesday the UK recorded 78,610 new cases of COVID-19, a daily record and nearly 20,000 cases more than Tuesday
The government is relying on its booster program to prevent lockdowns, with 650,000 jabs given on Tuesday On Wednesday a further 78,610 new cases were recorded, which is an increase of nearly 20,000 on Tuesday, and is around 10,000 more than the previous highest daily total, which came in January during the second wave of the pandemic.
"The numbers that we see on data over the next few days will be quite staggering compared to the rate of growth that we've seen in cases for previous variants," she said.
