Netball New Zealand confirmed Maria Folau's retirement in a press release which did not contain a single quote from the player herself.
Maria Folau has retired from netball, quietly stepping away from the sport at the age of 32.
"Her service to the sport and dedication to New Zealand Netball is something we are very thankful for and we wish Maria all the best for her future," Netball NZ CEO Jennie Wyllie said. After making her debut against Jamaica in 2005 as an 18-year-old, Folau went on to play 150 tests for New Zealand's national team, the Silver Ferns.
Her final appearance came at the Constellation Cup in October, where Australia claimed the silverware despite splitting the series 2-2. "There is something special about watching Maria seamlessly land those long-range goals from any point in the shooting circle without a furrowed brow," Taurua said.
