Tonight, though, is a night for a new era of NSW stars led by the best halfback in the modern game.As Andrew Webster writes, the great players live in two worlds. There’s this world, the perpetual shitfight in which nothing goes rightThen there’s the world where they are playing the perfect game. Each kick lands on its intended 20-cent piece; each glorious cut-out pass thuds into every chest; each opponent is out-thought, out-manoeuvred, out-played.
NSW sides have won just two of 12 series-deciding games in Queensland. Johns achieved the feat in 2005, and the only other side to have done so was the 1994 Blues team. That’s why Johns recently described winning game three in Brisbane as the hardest challenge any New South Welshman could face. He did it once, running hot of the back of one of the all-time great Origin performances in game two of the 2005 series.Andrew Johns: Why NSW will beat Queensland in the Origin deciderAll these words and feelings sum up Suncorp Stadium and make it the worst place possible for NSW to win a deciding State of Origin clash.
But rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns is sure the Blues players wouldn’t want it any other way. What a great challenge.when the Blues ran away with it.
