Australian states are battling against one another in a bid to host the AFL grand final.

Queensland has well and truly thrown its hat in the ring, with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk telling Sky News on Thursday that ‘if Queensland’s doing the heavy lifting, surely we can be considered for a grand final’. Ms Palaszczuk referred to Queensland recent acceptance of the AFL’s relocation plan which has seen all 10 AFL teams temporarily basing themselves at hubs between the Gold and Sunshine Coasts for the remainder of the season. “I did put a biD in for the grand final,” she said.

“I know that’s an early pitch, but we’ll continue to have discussions with the AFL about that.” With many other states, including WA, vying to host the final, they’ve taken the opportunity to poke fun at the Queensland and the premier, questing their knowledge of Aussie rules given its status as a league state. The premier was asked on Thursday how many players were on an AFL field. Ms Palaszczuk didn’t know the answer. This relocation plan could pump up to 40 million into Queensland’s economy.
