AFLW: After a first season to forget the Sydney Swans have marked a new chapter with finals football for the first time in the women's sides history.
The AFL’s reported ‘Round Zero’ name has been labelled “stupid” and “absolutely ridiculous” by a former Docker ahead of the 2024 fixture release later this month.But former Fremantle defender Lee Spurr believes the idea is missing the mark.
“If you want to do some exhibition games or they can be your pre-season NAB Cup games, then call it Round Zero, do that game and then move onto Round 1.“People need to stop being so precious about Round 1 needs to happen in Melbourne. I like the concept the AFL is doing but don’t be ridiculous and try to please everyone with creating really, an absurd name and title for it.”
As part of the ‘Round Zero’ plan, the clubs involved would then get a second bye week at some point across the season.
