Victorians will spend Christmas with stricter mask rules as COVID-19 cases continue to surge.
After the state recorded its biggest case day in more than two months on Thursday, Acting Premier James Merlino announced face coverings will again become mandatory in all indoor settings.But from 11.59pm on Thursday, the rules will change and masks will be mandatory in all indoor settings, except for private homes, for people aged eight and over.Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino.“We are not considering going into lockdown, this is the commitment we gave Victoria,” Mr Merlino said.
“The promise was if you go and get vaccinated, then you can enjoy Christmas and new year with your families and your loved ones, and that’s exactly what will happen.We are not considering going into lockdown, this is the commitment we gave Victoria.The acting premier also said the government will invest more than $31 million to support the Commonwealth’s program for the third vaccine dose rollout.Victoria recorded 2005 cases on Thursday and there were also 10 more COVID-related deaths.
Victoria’s hospitalisations have also slightly increased to 398 cases on Tuesday, with 72 of those in intensive care and 39 on a ventilator.As of Wednesday night there were a total of 61 cases of Omicron in the state with 30 acquiring the variant overseas and 31 in Australia.
