Deputy Premier and former Health Minister Steven Miles takes a look back at 2021 and reveals what he hopes Prime Minister Scott Morrison will do next year.

Deputy Premier and former Health Minister Steven Miles, one of the key figures in Queensland’s COVID recovery, reflects on 2021.Yes, for Queensland it was. We were locked down less and our economy bounced back. Plus, in 2020 I was the health minister, so there’s no way 2021 could have been as busy!Last Christmas [Miles’ daughter] Bridie stood up on her surfboard for the first time. That is a pretty good memory. It’s always our health workers.

My new portfolio was a big change, but I’ve really enjoyed working on all the incredible things happening in Queensland to create jobs.I hope we see a new Prime Minister more interested in working with us than picking fights. I think COVID will still be around but so long as we get our boosters and follow the health advice we will be OK. Our economy will continue to power ahead and we will see even more large-scale renewables projects.
