It has been a 'flat out' summer for snake catchers dealing with the slithering reptiles around Adelaide and nearby towns, while a vet reports treating more bites than usual.

A snake catcher says she has responded to more calls for snake removals than usual in Adelaide and surrounds.The number of call-outs to deal with adult snakes has begun to wane as the weather cools down.A snake catcher and a veterinarian say it has been a busy summer dealing with the slithering reptiles around Adelaide and nearby towns.

They included a red-bellied black snake in a pool at Lonsdale and another that had joined some goldfish for a dip in a pond at Currency Creek.Ms Broadstock also recently came to the rescue of a couple in Yankalilla, after they found a large eastern brown snake in a canary cage. "It got it within about 30 seconds and it was in the bag and they were like, 'Oh thank god, good catch'," she said.

Dr Quinton said despite most people thinking snakes were more likely to be around in hot, "blue sky" days, they would often go underground in the heat and be more active on overcast days with temperatures in the 20s.
