The group behind Rebel, Supercheap Auto, BCF and Macpac said lockdowns during the first half hurt in-store revenues, but sales grew strong;y in the second half

which owns Rebel, Supercheap Auto, BCF and Macpac brands, posted record sales over fiscal 2022 as foot traffic returned to stores in the second half, but its bottom line still sank 20 per cent.

Smaller brand Macpac was the star performer with sales gaining 15.3 per cent, boosted by the June winter sales, while BCF sales rose 4 per cent after solid Easter trading, underpinned by boating and camping gear. Rebel’s like-for-like sales fell 2.8 per cent for the year but rebounded in the second half, after tumbling 5.9 per cent because of lower footfall in CBD and large shopping malls, and fewer products due to shipping delays.Mr Heraghty said record online sales and the group’s strategic decision to invest in inventory in response to supply chain snags underpinned the first half performance.

He noted low unemployment and high levels of household savings are supporting strong consumer demand and foot traffic in shopping centres continues to build.
