The man accused of beating a former San Francisco fire commissioner was released from police custody but still faces charges.
Former San Francisco Fire Commissioner Don Carmignani was hospitalized with a fractured skull in a pipe attack before Easter -- now his lawyers say prosecutors plan to drop charges against the suspect.
He was released when former fire commissioner Don Carmignani failed to appear in court to testify, she said.
