An Ogden police officer shot and killed a man who opened fire on police after fleeing a traffic stop early Tuesday. It's the second police shooting in Ogden in the past week.
Ogden police Deputy Chief Jake Sube said later Tuesday morning that Ogden officers were dispatched to a disturbance call on the 100 block of 25th Street at 1:27 a.m. after reports of an individual with a gun.
The suspect fled the traffic stop, Sube said, but officers located the vehicle near the 700 block of 8th Street. When officers arrived, the suspect got out of the car and began firing at two officers who were still inside their vehicles. “We are extremely relieved that none of the officers were injured during this dangerous encounter,” Sube said. “Their commitment to their duty and their ability to respond quickly and rapidly in an evolving situation is commendable.”
Following the police department’s protocol, the officer who shot the suspect has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. “This is standard procedure designed to ensure the integrity of the investigation while also protecting the officer’s well being after such a traumatic incident,” Sube said.This is the second police shooting in Ogden in a week.
