Flight paths for aircraft taking off from Sydney Airport’s main north-south runway will be the most disrupted by proposed changes.

Flight paths from Sydney Airport’s main north-south runway will be the most affected by a shake-up of the airspace over the city when the Western Sydney Airport opens in three years.

Those taking off and flying east will initially track further to the west, over Burwood and Parramatta, before turning to the east-north-east. At present, departures to the east head over Petersham and Olympic Park before flying a wide variety of paths over the northern beaches. Aircraft flying from the east-west runway towards the west via Katoomba, north-west via Richmond and east via the northern beaches will be altered to accommodate Western Sydney Airport traffic.
