A counter-terrorism investigation into a potential mass casualty attack targeting the Jewish community in Sydney has expanded to Queensland. The discovery of an explosives-laden caravan in Dural, NSW, has raised concerns about escalating anti-Semitism and prompted heightened security measures for Jewish institutions. The case has also sparked controversy over why Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was not informed about the foiled terror plot.

The counter-terrorism investigation into a potential 'mass casualty' event targeting the Jewish community in Sydney has expanded to at least one other state. This news comes amidst questions regarding why Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was not informed about the foiled terror plot involving a caravan laden with explosives, especially during a period of escalating anti-Semitic violence. 7NEWS can confirm that the Queensland Police Service is 'supporting the New South Wales investigation'.

A spokesperson stated, 'This matter remains under investigation by the New South Wales Police Force and partner agencies. The Queensland Police Service, Security and Counter Terrorism Command remains engaged and supporting the New South Wales investigation with all necessary resources.' Several sources within security agencies have informed 7NEWS that the investigation into the caravan found in Dural, NSW, has now extended beyond Sydney. Antisemitic notes, along with addresses of Jewish places of worship in Sydney, were discovered inside the caravan. In response to this discovery, the Jewish community has heightened security measures for their protection. The Australian Electoral Commission has acknowledged the potential impact that deteriorating social cohesion could have on the federal election. Police will now patrol student drop-offs and pick-ups at every Sydney Jewish school, an extraordinary measure intended to alleviate parental and student anxieties amid widespread concern. However, it has also been revealed that NSW Police did not consider it 'necessary' to inform Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about the discovery of the caravan. On Friday, the Prime Minister declined to comment on when he was first informed about the caravan, stating that he 'did not go into operational matters'. Police were alerted to Dural on January 19th after a local towed the caravan, which had been parked precariously on the side of the road for approximately six weeks, to their property and discovered its contents. NSW Premier Chris Minns was made aware of the discovery on January 20th. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton told 7NEWS on Friday that he 'just can’t think of a precedent where a Prime Minister wouldn’t be informed of a pending terrorist attack'. NSW Police have made three arrests of individuals considered on the 'periphery' of the case, but none have been charged in relation to any involvement with the caravan plot
