'We need your help': ICU doctor's COVID-19 warning for young people
An intensive care specialist at a Western Sydney hospital has pleaded with young people to "help" health care staff by getting vaccinated.She says health staff must hold hands and comfort patients because their family can't be thereNhi Nguyen from Nepean Hospital said she and her colleagues were worried by increasing numbers of young people being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit , where up to 25 per cent of patients were under 40.
Dr Nguyen said it was also concerning that the Delta strain was causing young people to remain in intensive care for longer.She pleaded with young people to get their first vaccine dose to receive some level of protection. "I grew up in Liverpool. I now live in the Penrith LGA. Please, if you are able and you are between 16 and 39, book in and get your first shot of the vaccine, because we know it will protect you.""I think everybody underestimates when they actually get COVID. They don't think it will happen to them.
