The Berejiklian government is facing a backlash from key tenants of the new Sydney Football Stadium after a multi-mode 'curtain' was not included in final construction plans despite a cost blowout of $99 million
"This is the best price, the best quality and also the best time frame," Ms Berejiklian said, while promising the stadium would be completed in time for the 2022 NRL grand final with no changes to its design or capacity.
Sydney FC chief executive Danny Townsend said all of the tenants of the former Allianz Stadium "have always been adamant we needed it to function in two modes". Acting Sport Minister Geoff Lee said that the government had "always been clear that no club mode curtain will be delivered in the stadium project".
