Sydney light rail risk reports show high number of 'hazardous events' | Mattonews Rabe9
. A branch of the line past the University of NSW to Kingsford is expected to open three months later.Internal reports by Spanish construction company Acciona, obtained by the, show the "most frequent hazardous events" by far have been motorists entering the tramway corridor.
One of the challenges for authorities has been that when one vehicle makes a wrong turn into the tramway corridor, another tends to follow close behind. The "safety risk assessment" reports by Acciona – released under freedom of information laws – were for the line from Central Station to Randwick, which is only a section of the 12.7-kilometre light rail corridor. They do not include an assessment of George Street in the CBD, where the 67-metre trams have to navigate through large numbers of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
"Reporting incidents is a required part of testing and commissioning so that potential risks and issues can be addressed," the agency said.
