The young man, who allegedly pledged allegiance to Islamic State and researched knives, was arrested early this morning at his family home.
The 21-year-old was arrested at his family home on Short Rd in Riverwood about 7am today when investigators jumped the fence to a brick apartment block and demanded someone open the door.
“He downloaded a document on basic weapons and tactics that we allege could be used to facilitate a terrorist act,” he told a throng of reporters in Sydney this afternoon.He said it will be further alleged the young man, who is an Australian citizen, had actively attempted to influence teenagers, aged 17 and 18, to adopt and act upon his extremist views.

A number of electronic items were seized from the Riverwood residence and will be subject to further forensic examination.Search warrants were executed today at other properties in the city’s southwest including Greenacre and a Condell Park home believed to be where the suspect’s grandparents live.The man is expected to be charged later today with doing an act in preparation for a terrorist act, advocating for terrorism and being a member of the terrorist organisation Islamic State.
