Online bookmaker Nick Fahey has had a big year. His PointsBet shares left him $156.4 million richer and he’s just made this move in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

To cap it all off, the 34-year-old is set to make his debut on Sydney’s high-end market, thanks to the contemporary hillside residence in Tamarama he has bought for more than $16 million.Fahey was still in his late 20s when he founded PointsBet in 2015, with his brother Andrew and its current chief executive Sam Swanell, using his credit cards and a personal loan. It was floated on the ASX two years ago.

It isn’t Fahey’s first taste of the Tamarama property market. In June, he bought two apartments in an oceanfront block of six for a total of $5.25 million. Sources say close to $9.5 million was agreed on for the seven-bedroom mansion with “stately grounds” and indoor pool, from Industrie Clothing’s director, James Tonkin, and his wife, Susie. The Tonkins bought it a year ago, although they did squeeze in a renovation in the intervening 12 months to justify almost doubling the $4.9 million they paid for it.
