A ride at the Sydney Royal Easter Show has been shut down after a photo emerged of a child “unrestrained” on the ‘Free Fall’ ride.
Late on Sunday, a spokesperson for the Sydney Royal Easter Show issued a statement saying the ride will be closed indefinitely.
“The safety systems of the ride functioned well to prevent any injury occurring and the ride will not operate again until a full investigation has been completed and the ride has been approved by specialist engineers.” “[It is] a controlled drop that stimulates the fear of falling - with a gentle stop bringing them safely back to earth,” the description reads. The incident comes barely a week after carousel rides across Queensland were temporarily closed following an injury to a young boy at Movie World.
“The patient was at the side of the amusement ride, he’d been tended to by one of the on scene, so he had good first aid given before we arrived,” Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor William Houghton told reporters.“The guest received a laceration to his head and was attended to by Movie World’s Nurse before being taken to hospital in a stable condition,” a Village Roadshow Theme Parks spokesperson said.
