Maps tracking Covid cases in NSW are getting darker and darker, with one Sydney area recording a fifth of today’s 5612 cases.
After a string of record-breaking daily increases in Covid-19 cases, the state recorded 5715 new infections in the 24 hours reported to 8pm on Wednesday.
NSW Health said there was no one specific event in the area that the increase in cases was linked to. “But the issue is the increased transmisability leading to high case numbers and the impact this is having on vulnerable settings, vulnerable people and critical workforces such as our health and aged care workforce,” she said.
The high concentration of cases in Sydney’s CBD can be traced to a celebration commemorate the release ofwhich was held at the Metro Theatre in Sydney’s CBD. As of Sunday, at least 97 attendees had tested positive.In the days leading up to Christmas, media commentators have shared concerns over how rising infectious could affect Christmas.
