New Sydney Swans coach Dean Cox led a grueling seven-and-a-half-hour review of the club's 60-point Grand Final loss to Brisbane, aiming to dissect every aspect of the disappointing performance and pave the way for future success.

New Sydney Swans coach Dean Cox has unveiled the club's thorough examination of their disastrous 2024 Grand Final loss to Brisbane. In a candid seven-and-a-half hour session, the Swans aimed to dissect every aspect of the 60-point defeat, which served as a jarring end to an otherwise dominant season. Cox, replacing long-time coach John Longmire , emphasized the importance of confronting the performance head-on rather than brushing it aside. 'We just had to watch it,' Cox revealed on SEN radio.

'We pushed the (pre-season) program back a day.' 'For us it was about making sure we reviewed it. We sat down and spoke about what happened, we identified it as a playing group and a coaching group. What went wrong, what we wanted to focus on going forward and then everything started rolling from there.' The review, Cox admitted, was particularly grueling for the players, who were forced to relive their second-quarter struggles, where Brisbane surged with seven unanswered goals to establish a commanding 46-point lead at the half. The intensity was palpable, with an hour dedicated solely to analyzing the first minute of the game. 'One thing we wanted to do was watch it from a different perspective again,' Cox explained. 'And the players involved to be able to talk through what they were feeling and also to call out what was happening.' Cox acknowledged that the feedback delivered to the players was not always comfortable. 'We tried to address everything we possibly could,' he admitted. 'Would we have gotten everything right? Probably not, but I think we needed to make sure that we started the day with a review and a reflection upon what happened. The ability to move forward can only happen from that.' The Swans, determined to learn from their Grand Final heartbreak, are now focused on implementing the necessary changes to ensure a more successful campaign in 2025
