The latest breakdown in negotiations comes after Sydney’s entire rail network was shut down on February 21, sparking days of transport chaos. The rail union will push ahead with planned industrial action across Sydney’s train network next week despite the NSW government’s latest offer to resolve a standoff between the two sides over the safety of the state’s new $2.88 billion intercity train fleet.
“The sticking point for us is and always will be the safety of the rail network,” he said. “And unfortunately, what they’ve done is they’ve offered us a bribe to run the new intercity fleet the way it is without modifications.”
