A 25-year-old woman who is still experiencing COVID-19 symptoms almost a month after contracting the virus at a popular hairdresser says people in NSW should stop being complacent 'for our grandparents'.

Ms Waitsman visited the hair salon on Saturday June 19 before being told she was a close contact and was forced to self-isolated.

Claudia Waitsman contracted the virus at Joh Bailey's hair salon in Double Bay. Picture: Facebook / Claudia Waitsman; Instagram / johbaileyofficialon the NSW health website, and now - almost a month later, she still hasn't got her taste or smell back. "I did think about going into the hospital once or twice but I wasn't going to. I think the beds are needed for the elderly and people who really need them. But there were definitely thoughts there.""[Locking down] isn't just for us, it's for the elderly, it's for our grandparents," she said.

"I think everyone needs to understand that, it's not you. You could survive, you could be really sick but you could survive. It's everyone else that you can spread to, that's the problem. The quicker everyone locks down and does the right thing, the quicker we'll be able to get through this."
