While police have commended the hikers for carrying emergency location devices, they are urging all prospective bushwalkers to ensure they are adequately prepared for the state's challenging and remote walks.Authorities have made a plea for bushwalkers in Tasmania to better prepare for treks into the state's unpredictable and remote wilderness, following the busiest rescue weekend of the season so far. On Saturday, search and rescue teams responded to three separate incidents across the state requiring rescue by helicopter: a Tasmanian woman who experienced a medical episode in the Western Arthur Ranges; a Tasmanian man who became lost on the South Coast Track; and two interstate tourists stranded on Cradle Mountain at night.in the Freycinet National Park, and another man was located after failing to return from a walk on the South Coast Track.Senior Constable Callum Herbert said three rescues in one day was 'unusual' but there were often more rescue operations over summer.'So people, perhaps, are getting driven into more remote areas.' Securing a booking for the state's most famous multi-day hikes, The Overland Track, Frenchmans Cap and the Three Capes Track, was becoming more difficult, he said.
