The tooth could provide further historical evidence of inter-community trading in Western Australia and was unearthed in Juukan Gorge, which made headlines in 2020 when its rock shelters were damaged by Rio Tinto blasts.

An Aboriginal corporation says a Tasmanian devil tooth has been found in a rock shelter at Juukan Gorge in the Pilbara.

Discovered among a number of other rare artefacts, the tooth could provide further historical evidence of inter-community trading in the region, according to researchers."There is no physical evidence that even lived in the Pilbara, and the last evidence of devils living in WA was in the South West around 3,000 years ago," he said.

Representatives from PKKP said the discovery demonstrated "the extreme cultural and scientific significance of Juukan Gorge".
