Tasmania’s Liberal government has lost its majority after two MPs resigned over their disagreement with the new Hobart AFL stadium.

State Liberals Lara Alexander and John Tucker, will sit as crossbench independents in protest of the planned stadium. While the stadium has secured Tasmania an AFL team, it will also cost the state budget $375 million.

The $715 million AFL stadium is causing division among Tasmanians, with state Labor opposing the project, despite Prime Minister Anthony Albanese contributing $240 million in federal funding.
