Freedom of Information documents reveal that the Albanese government's First Nations Ambassador, Justin Mohamed, has spent $200,000 on overseas travel, prompting criticism from the opposition about wasteful government expenditure. Mohamed's trips, which included visits to Switzerland, the United States, Fiji, Marshall Islands, and Tuvalu, have raised concerns about the value and purpose of the ambassador role, especially given the high cost to taxpayers.

Taxpayers have forked out a staggering $200,000 for the Albanese government’s First Nations Ambassador to jet set around the world.

Taxpayers have foot the bill of close to a quarter of a million dollars for Mr Mohamed’s trips over the years – on top of his plum $759,000 two-year contract. “These latest revelations underscore the money being wasted on a pointless position that could be used to address genuine disadvantage in Indigenous communities," he said.

The documents reveal that destinations included frequent visits to Switzerland and the United States, as well as Fiji, Marshall Islands and Tuvalu.
