Nearly half a century has passed since he arrived on Far North Queensland's Green Island with more than 30 Papua New Guinean crocodiles in tow. Mr Craig was born in Peru in 1930 and moved to England for school in 1939, just as World War II began."So we were very lucky we weren't all blown to pieces." Back in London, Mr Craig had a foray as a swimmer in an aqua show alongside Olympian and Tarzan actor Johnny Weissmuller, and travelled around the UK performing in a comic diving troupe."I said to my mum, 'If I'm not back tonight, I'm gone for awhile' — and I went down to Tilbury and there was a boat leaving for Melbourne," Mr Craig said.
He hitchhiked, had a stint in an artists' colony and spent 74 days helping a man sail from Gladstone to Kangaroo Island, for which he received £20."You could walk through the town in those days with it strapped on your back and no-one would say anything.
