A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the back following an altercation involving illegal fireworks at Bright Park in Guildford, Sydney.
A teenage boy has been stabbed in the back after illegal fireworks were set off in a park in Sydney ’s west on New Year’s Eve. The 17-year-old was at Bright Park in Guildford at 10.40pm as a group of males were allegedly letting off the fireworks. A short time later, the boy was stabbed in the back, with his alleged attacker fleeing the scene. The victim was treated by paramedics at the park and is now in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident. The incident came as more than 200,000 people crammed into vantage points across the city to see the Sydney Harbour fireworks display. Police made 36 arrests for various offences, including assault, affray, robbery and knife possession, but said the public was otherwise well-behaved. “Once again Sydney welcomed 2025 with an iconic fireworks display and the vast majority people enjoyed their night safely and without incident,” Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna said. “Unfortunately, police were kept busy by a handful of revellers doing the wrong thing, but those people were dealt with quickly.
