Temperatures reached 30 degrees in Sydney's west on Thursday, as northwesterly winds brought a warm air mass across the state leaving Sydney with its balmiest early spring day since 1995.
In that year, a late August day exceeded 31 degrees. "Obviously there's still a chance of us exceeding that record," Mr Avellan said. But the warm weather isn't going to last long - a cold front is due to hit on Friday causing a return to more usual temperatures by the weekend.
