Ten melon-headed whales have been found dead north of Broome , Western Australia . The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) confirmed the discovery of the whales, with three initially found by a local resident on a morning walk. Subsequent searches by DBCA staff revealed seven more whales in mangroves and creeks in the same area. DBCA staff managed to safely remove seven of the deceased whales for proper disposal.
However, three whales remained inaccessible and will be left to decompose naturally. Thomas Howard, a Broome resident, stumbled upon the initial three whales while on a fishing trip with friends. He described them as initially appearing like dolphins due to their small size. Crab Creek Road, the primary access route to the area, has been closed to all traffic. The public is advised to avoid the vicinity due to an elevated risk of shark and crocodile encounters. A shark advisory is currently in effect between Fall Point Beach and Crab Creek Beach
