A Melbourne man who plotted to “leave a line of dead lefties” yelled at the jury as he was taken from the courtroom after being found guilty.

A Supreme Court jury returned the guilty verdict just after 10.45am today against Phillip Galea, 34, who had planned to wreak havoc across the city and target buildings including Trades Hall.

He wanted to fight “the left” using acid injections, electrical shocks and throat-cutting, Richard Maidment QC told a Victorian Supreme Court jury during Galea’s seven-week trial. Galea was found guilty of making a document to facilitate a terrorist act. He called it the “Patriot’s Cookbook”. Galea wanted to target the city’s anarchist club, as well as the Melbourne Resistance Centre and the Trades Hall, associated with the union movement, “to eliminate the leaders of the left”, the court was told.Phillip Galea planned to attack Melbourne anarchist and socialist groups.
