I also wanted to reflect on the matters concerning the industry today. Since the first fair in 1983, there has been a marked shift towards a meaningful conversation aboutin terms of where materials come from, including single-mine-origin gold, recycled silver and ethically sourced gemstones. There is also the question of diversity.
Finally, I wanted to draw attention to the talent that keeps rising to the surface, in spite of the massive challenges facing the creative industries in this country today, such as funding cuts in education and increased living costs. With that in mind, read on to see my pick of the new jewellery artists at this year’s fair. The future’s looking bright indeed.
