Rumours are swirling that China may backflip on its Australian trade restrictions with a change in federal government, but some producers have put the country firmly in their rear-vision mirror.

"China was our fourth-largest market by volume … so to take that out of the system is quite substantial," Inland Wine Regions Alliance chair Jim Caddy said.

"Obviously, from a trade point of view, we'd love to see those restrictions lifted, but I think it's a little bit too early to predict how that issue is going to play out," Senator Farrell said.But analysts say mending the relationship won't be as easy as simply kissing and making up. Ten meat processors across the country, including five in Queensland, are still banned from sending beef to China over COVID-related matters.
