Prime Minister Scott Morrison has struggled to answer a coronavirus question posed to him by an eight-year-old girl during a podcast. 9News

The PM was recording an episode of the podcast Squiz Kids when Claudia from Brisbane asked: "How long until I can hug my granny? I don't want her to get sick."

A clearly touched Scott Morrison said he "really feels" for the young girl, adding: "It must be really hard. I really had a wonderful relationship with my grandmother when I was a kid and I know how hard that must feel for you... you're not living in the same place... hopefully you're getting to talk to her, you can do that on Skype or something like that, or FaceTime if you can.

As for how long it will before Claudia can hug her granny again, the Prime Minister said: "Look, I hope it won't be too long but for now and for the months ahead, your grandmother is going to be safer by being on her own for a while." Podcast host Bryce Corbett presented other equally poignant questions by children to the PM, including 10-year-old Harriet from Petersham who asked how the coronavirus crisis is affecting the PM's family, receiving a raw response from the husband and father.Squiz Kids is a free, daily news podcast made just for children that goes out at 7am each day. Today's special episode is now available via your favourite podcast app.

Listeners were asked to send in their questions to the Prime Minister, with host Bryce Corbett and his team choosing the top ones to put to him.
