COMMENT: The ever-changing search for Owami Davies Did cops drag their feet at the start? Why did it suddenly change to a murder investigation and back to a missing person case?
DO THE police know what they are doing in the search for missing Owami Davies?
Let’s recap. On 6th July, two days after she went missing, police put out a missing persons notice, but this effectively goes missing because it is not backed by a media drive. The next day, police say she was in the company of a man, and that a third man, aged 32, was also arrested, but the case remains a missing persons inquiry.
On Tuesday this week , police say the ‘murdered’ student nurse may still be alive. They have downloaded about 50,000 hours of CCTV and have viewed about 10,000 hours, and suggest they are still looking in the Croydon area. It is clear that a lot of police resources is going into the case now, but what happened between Owami going missing and, 30 days later, when the police began making arrests for her suspected murder? It seems a long time from issuing a missing persons notice to announcing suspects for kidnap and murder.
So too, are the public messages from the police that they were targeted messages at people in the Croydon area, to now suggesting people across the capital should be vigilant because she may be travelingWe all desperately want Owami found safe and well. Hopefully the involvement of the specialist police command and the National Crime Agency can help bring that about.
