A COVID-19 vaccine trial is underway in Canberra, with dozens of volunteers already injected with the potential immunisation against coronavirus.
The Novavax vaccine is one of four being trialled in AustraliaAbout 80 Canberra volunteers are expected to receive the vaccine, which has been developed by United States company Novavax.
The ACT has no known active coronavirus cases, and it has been more than 50 days since the last case was recorded.Paratus Clinical's Matt Clacy said the vaccine had so far been "extremely well tolerated." "So, you don't receive an activated virus itself, you actually just get a small part of it so the body can recognise and hopefully build an immune response to that.
One of which is John Hall, Ochre Health's director of medical services and president of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia. Up to 30 more volunteers are needed for the trial, and any healthy Canberrans aged 18 to 84 have been invited to put their hands up.
