HOUSTON—The Houston Astros secured the second World Series title in the club’s 61-year history with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6, completing a rapid return to the top three years after it was revealed that their 2017 championship had come during a season when the Astros operated an illegal sign-stealing scheme.
Houston and Philadelphia had been engaged in a pitchers duel until the sixth inning, with the Phillies getting on the board first with a solo shot from left fielder Kyle Schwarber. Then, the Astros powered their way toward victory on a towering home run by left fielder Yordan Alvarez, whose three-run shot to deep center field that traveled 450 feet. The Astros then rolled out a series of relievers behind starter Framber Valdez, who pitched six innings for the win.
